Itinerary

Day 1

Delhi to Thimphu (via Paro)

Following an unforgettable flight over the Himalayas from Delhi you will arrive in Paro, where you will then be transferred to Amankora Thimphu for a 2 night stay. Spend the afternoon visiting any of the museums or the National Library before browsing the main street for interesting Himalayan artefacts and textiles.

Day 2

In Thimphu

In the morning, visit Trashi Chhoe Dzong, the seat of Bhutan's government and Royal offices, and Pangri Zampa, dating back to the 16th century but now home to a monastic training school for astrologers. Take a short hike to Cheri Goemba or see some of the local cottage industries.

Day 3

Thimphu to Gangtey

Depart early this morning for a dramatic drive via the Dochu La Pass to Amankora Gangtey for a 2 night stay. On arrival, visit the striking Gangtey Goemba and stroll through quaint Gangtey Village.

Day 4

In Gangtey

Spend the morning visiting the Black Neck Crane Centre before venturing for a walk or bike ride through the magnificent valley. Enjoy time at leisure, unwind at the lodge or return to the Goemba for a possible audience with the Trulkul.

Day 5

Gangtey to Bumthang

Today you will take a scenic journey to Amankora Bumthang for a 3 night stay. After a brief stop at Chendebji Chorten, you will visit Trongsa Dzong, the ancestral home to Bhutan'€™s monarch, followed by a trip to watch Yatra weaving in the Chhume Valley.

Day 6

In Bumthang

Begin the day by exploring the palace of Wangdichhoeling before heading up the valley to the grand Kurjey Lhakhang, passing the auspicious prayer wheels as you go. Head back into town and visit Tamshing Monastery before exploring the valley's unique local businesses.

Day 7

In Bumthang

Today take an excursion to the beautiful, seldom-visited Tang Valley, home to several off-the-beaten path lhakhangs and monasteries, along with the museum at Ogen Chhoeling Palace. Enjoy a picnic while taking in the spectacular views.

Day 8

Bumthang to Punakha

Depart early for your journey to Amankora Punakha where you will stay for 2 nights. Upon entering Punakha Valley, take a stroll to Chimi Lhakhang, an auspicious fertility monastery built in 1499.

Day 9

In Punakha

In the morning, hike through fields of chillies, cabbages and rice lining the banks of the Mo Chhu to reach the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten. Returning through the valley, take in the impressive Punakha Dzong, followed by a picnic and visit to the quaint village of Talo.

Day 10

Punakha to Paro

Begin your journey to Amankora Paro where you will stay for 2 nights. In the afternoon, stroll to the nearby ruins, visit some of the valley'€™s oldest and holiest religious monuments or amble down Paro'€™s main street. At night, listen to informative lectures on the region or watch a film on the Himalayas.

Day 11

In Paro

Enjoy visits to the National Museum and Paro Dzong learning about the rich heritage of the Kingdom. Have a picturesque picnic or farmhouse lunch with a local family before hiking to '€˜Tiger'€™s Nest'€™, taking in the spectacular views of this sacred, cliffside monastery.

Day 12

Paro to Delhi

Today you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
