Dr. Lawrence Blair is an explorer, film maker, author and public speaker on the peoples and creatures of Indonesia. A resident of Bali he has assisted and led marine expeditions throughout the archipelago since the Lindblad Explorer – the first genuinely exploratory tourist ship – broached the Spice Islands in 1978. His onboard companions have included Mick Jagger, Jerry Hall, Sir Peter Scott, Ron and Valerie Taylor, Sir Michael Cowdray, Baron Von Schenk, Larry Summers, Richard Dawkins and numerous luminaries, less publicly known, in the fields of science.


The Kundanil Explorer is a 50-metre long luxury expedition vessel that will take you diving, surfing and exploring the most magical, unknown parts of the archipelago. 16 guests can stay in eight beautiful berths with access to exclusive amenities  along with 21 crew members who will ensure exceptional comfort. Built as a safety standby vessel, the Kundanil Explorer provides the reliability you need to wander far into the uncharted. Pamper yourself with a spa, dine at the indoor restaurant or find something new to read at the library lounge. Eight private cabins (size 30sqm.) await you. Each 15 sqm. bedroom comes with one king-size bed or two single beds (optional). Additional beds are available for children upon request. Each cabin also comes with a 4.5sqm bathroom, a private terrace (11sqm.) complete with a day bed, two chairs and a coffee table. Enjoy a gentle breeze and 360 degrees views from the cozy daybeds, indulge in gourmet meals at the outdoor restaurant or just relax and hang out at the indoor sky saloon. Enjoy the view of the horizon, sun tan during the day  and star gaze at night while soaking in the Jacuzzi up on the vessel's Monkey Island.

Day 1

Saturday, 26th August 2023 - WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

Arrive to Denpasar airport, where your private transfer will welcome you to Bali and your adventure will begin at Capella Ubud. Perhaps you’ll explore the Camp, lounge by the Cistern or enjoy Afternoon Tea in the Officers Tent.

As the sun sets you’ll gather for a Balinese Sandikala Ritual at the Campfire, placing offerings at the camp’s temple as gratitude for the abundant blessing received throughout the day. You’ll meet your host Dr. Lawrence Blaire for some sunset storytelling and introduction to the adventures that await you.

Dinner will be served in the split-level tented dining room named in honor of the famous Danish spice trader and peace maker of Bali, Mads Lange. Your Indonesian "Rijsttafel" feast will include classic dishes, designed for sharing using ancient recipes inspired by the spice trail across the Nusantara archipelago.

Sunday, 27th August 2023 - ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Mount Batur is an active volcano believed by Bali’s Hindu population to be sacred and is part of UNESCO’s Global Geopark Network. You’ll begin your hike before dawn under a blanket of a million stars and expert local guides will help you climb to the 'top of the world' for a spectacular view of the sacred scenery and witness the sun breaking through the horizon ahead of a new glorious day – a deeply moving and momentous experience. The daylight will reveal fantastic panoramic photo opportunities of the volcanic valley and spectacular views of holy Mount Agung, Mount Abang and Mount Rinjani all the way in Lombok.

Back at Camp you’ll relax and renew in the hotel's Auriga Wellness Spa, a perfect reward after the morning physical exertion.

Dinner this evening will ignite some 'fire to the soul', as the chefs at the awardwinning Api Jiwa restaurant create exciting Asian barbecue food served in an intimate, lively atmosphere.

Monday, 28th August 2023 - FROM JUNGLE TO SEA

After breakfast you’ll head to the airport for the short flight to Komodo. Arrive in Labuan Bajo airport, where it’s only a 15 minutes ride to your ship - the Kudanil Explorer.

Welcome aboard! After an hour’s sail, you do our first check dive before going on to moor for sunset where a cloud of thousands of bats take off for the night. Enjoy a snorkel, kayak or water-ski session before dinner is served.

Day 4

Tuesday, 29th August 2023 - PADAR & NUSA KODE

You will wake up before dawn in Padar and embark on an early morning hilltop ascent for spectacular sunrise views. Afterwards, you will enjoy a dive and wander along the immaculate pink beach.

During lunchtime, you will sail to the southern part of the National Park towards the majestic entrance of Nusa Kode. Komodo dragons are regularly visible on the beach, hanging out with the usual crowd of monkeys, deer and wild pigs. There are three spectacular dives sites here offering a mixture of coral, macro and pelagic experiences, which will suit divers and snorkelers alike.

Day 5

Wednesday, 30th September 2023 - MANTA ALLEY

Snorkel or dive the sites around Manta Alley which, as the name suggests, is a perfect place to see these peaceful rays with their enormous wingspans.

In the afternoon, you will anchor in a quiet, calm bay, ideal for watersports and sundowners.

Day 6

Thursday, 31st August 2023 - CENTRAL KOMODO

You will snorkel the pristine coral reef of Pulau Saiba, home to numerous turtles, and relax at Pulau Mawan.

In the afternoon, you will visit Gili Makassar with its pictureperfect sand bank and more giant manta rays, before going on to look for the famous Komodo dragons at a remote, nearby ranger station.

Day 7

Friday, 1st September 2023 - GILI LAWA ISLANDS & BATU MONCU

You will wake up at Gili Lawa Laut, for a trek up to the hilltop to enjoy spectacular sunrise views over Komodo National Park. After breakfast you will dive in the limpid waters amongst the teeming pelagic life at several of the world-class dive sites, such as Crystal Rock, Castle Rock and Shotgun.

You will spend the afternoon in Batu Moncu, a beautiful bay in the far northwest of Komodo Island with several dive sites and a spectacular beach, perfect for water sports and sunset drinks.

Day 8

Saturday, 2nd September 2023 - DISEMBARKATION

After breakfast, you will pack and prepare to disembark, returning to Labuan Bajo Airport by tender and car. 

End of the trip!

You can then extend your journey by going to Bali (Ubud or one of the seaside resorts) or Sumba Island (e.g. the stunning Nihi Sumba Resort).
