The name La Messardière was not created for this prestigious five-star Sanit-Tropez Hotel, but dates back to the eight century. Built in the 19th century, it was a wedding gift for Henry Brisson de la Messardière, a famous officer, and Louise Dupuy d’Angeac, an artist and musician. The family home became a hotel in 1904 and was particularly popular with the Parisian aristocracy. The château was restored and extended in 1989 under the auspices of J.C. Rochette, architect in chief of Monuments Historiques, and then bought by a French group in 1992. The renovation of Château de la Messardière to transform it into a hotel offering exclusive service and experiences began in 2019, and the hotel joined the prestigious Airelles collection in 2021.
Today, Château de la Messardière, close to the famous Place des Lices in the heart of St-Tropez offers one of the best views of the Mediterranean in the town, overlooking Pampelonne Bay. This five-star historic hotel has breath taking views over 12.5 hectares of gardens and pine groves. The gardens are designed to respect the natural lines of the site and not to obscure the sea views. Relax by one of the pools, take a siesta beneath the pine trees, enjoy a game of boules or an aperitif whilst enjoying stunning sea views, as the palette of colours change with every hour of the day.
A pioneer of responsible luxury, Château de la Messardière has had an environmental charter in place for twenty
years to help protect its magnificent ecosystem. Rubbish is recycled, food waste is composted for the gardens and waste and pollution is avoided. Guests as well as staff are invited to join in with these simple gestures.
In 2019 the renovation of Château de la Messardière, four years in the planning, began. The gardens, spa, lobby
and restaurants were transformed. A private villa, two signature suites and the Airelles Summer Camp for children were also created, and this already unique place took on a new dimension. Those who already know the Airelles properties will find the same values at Saint-Tropez as they have already experienced at Courchevel, Gordes, Val d’Isère or the Château de Versailles. The hotel staff will do whatever they can to meet the smallest wish of their guests. At Château de la Messardière, guests will enjoy the discreet and efficient service which is always offered with a smile which the group has become known for.
Overseen by interior designer Christophe Tollemer, the renovation of Château de la Messardière has taken advantage of its magnificent heritage while also adding modern touches. The classic lines and the symmetry of the layout complement the wonderful views of the Saint-Tropez golf course and Pampelonne Bay. Entering through the garden, you’ll arrive in the new lobby, decorated in neutral tones with occasional hints of gold. The tasteful, high-end materials used include beige and white marble, with a black marble floor.
