Nestled between the edge of the New Forest National Park, the sea and Christchurch, Bournemouth and Southampton, Chewton Glen hotel’s surroundings reflect what this privately owned 18th-century luxury country house hotel and spa offers. Recognized as one of the UK’s best hotels, Chewton Glen combines luxury with old-school service.
The hotel’s location offers plenty to see and do. Chewton Glen is a fairly developed and fascinating area, only five minutes from the sea. It’s under two hours away from London but feels a million miles away from the chaos of city life.
Set in 130 acres of beautiful grounds, the hotel offers plenty to keep visitors busy, from relaxing facials in the spa, tennis, golf on the nine-hole course, archery, croquet, beekeeping, sheep walking, duck herding and more.
The hotel is also within quick and easy reach of the quieter pastures of the historic New Forest, The Solent and Mudiford beach. The latter is charming and bursting with character, with its line of traditional beach huts and Milford-on-Sea and Keyhaven’s petite harbour. The seaside location offers great walks, including the walk from Mudeford beach to Hurst Spit, in The Solent, via the Tudor fort. Another interesting trip to take is a boat from Keyhaven Harbour to Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight, via the Needles.
Other highlights at Chewton Glen include The Dining Room, which spans across five rooms, comprising of a summerhouse, wine room and conservatory. This restaurant has varied menus and dishes, and many of the ingredients are locally sourced from trusted suppliers. Within the grounds, you will also find The Kitchen restaurant and cookery school, a laid-back venue overseen by celebrity chef James Martin, for relaxed dining or improving your culinary skills.
The hotel has 70 bedrooms, including the suites and the luxury treehouse suites, which are on stilts and eco-firendly. The interior design of the rooms is varied and all of them exude great attention to detail. There is also a walled kitchen garden.
