The d’Angleterre is the result of a love affair between two young people. In the middle of the 1700’s, Jean Marchal, a French servant, and Maria Coppy, daughter of the royal family’s chef, fell in love. The pair complimented each other perfectly – she was a genius in the kitchen and he knew everything there was to know about working for the aristocracy. This match-made-in-Copenhagen was the beginning of d’Angleterre’s history. The couple settled down by the lakes of Copenhagen and opened a restaurant. Later they moved the restaurant to Kongens Nytorv (King’s New Square) at the corner of Vingårdstræde in the
heart of Copenhagen - and added rooms for guests. And it is from that point that the official founding of the d’Angleterre is market - although that name wasn’t added until 32 years later in 1787.
The founders’ and successors’ talents and commitment to providing exceptional service, hospitality and comfort have been the hallmark of the d’Angleterre for more than 260 years. This tradition is the foundation of the d’Angleterre legacy.
Today, d’Angleterre’s engaged owners, and every member of the staff, affectionately carry on the tradition of passion for service that has earned the hotel its 5-star Superior rating.
d’Angleterre is located at Kongens Nytorv in the heart of Copenhagen, with neighbours such as the colourful Nyhavn, the Royal Theatre and Kongens Have (The King’s Garden).
Attractions like the royal palace of Amalienborg, Tivoli Gardens and The Little Mermaid are all within walking distance.
You can also experience the canal district of Christianshavn or world-famous Freetown Christiania. The longest pedestrianized shopping street in Europe, Strøget, is located next to d’Angleterre with a variety of shopping, dining and historical buildings to explore. Be charmed by the effortless sense of style at d’Angleterre, the best place to stay in Copenhagen.
Modern, urban touch with the tradition of culinary, Marchal reflects the culinary love that quite literally has been the heart and soul of the d’Angleterre since 1755, where Jean Marchal and Maria Coppy joined forces romantically and professionally to establish a restaurant, which later grew into the Hotel d’Angleterre. The tradition of fusing passion and culinary art continues at Marchal, which pays homage to the couple behind hotel d’Angleterre. Marchal strives to make the d’Angleterre dining experience appealing to...
Balthazar is the name of a 12-litres Champagne bottle. Therefore, it was obvious to name the first Champagne bar in the heart of Copenhagen, and Denmark, exactly that. Balthazar Champagne Bar is first and foremost about Champagne - about celebrating life - but also unique signature cocktails like their Downton Abbey, classics like an Espresso Martini, and sophisticated snacks. All complemented by the beautiful décor and flirtatious tunes from their DJ's, all creating a rather vibrant and international environment. You can enjoy ...
