For some guests, checking into Ellerman House involves going nowhere and doing nothing more adventurous or strenuous than booking a few spa treatments, lazing next to the pool with a compelling book, or relaxing in front of a roaring fire with a special glass of wine on a winters afternoon. Part of the attraction of being a guest in a small hotel is the luxury of space it affords, the lack of rules, freedom from routine, and the numerous home-from-home comforts at hand.
Having privileged access to the owners extensive South African art collection, including valuable paintings and sculptures, is a highlight. The collection spans original works from the turn of the last century to current contemporary art, a separate collection which is displayed in the Ellerman House Contemporary Art Gallery.
The Ellerman House Spa is a tranquil, nurturing environment dedicated to the rejuvenation of body, mind and soul. It specialises in cuttingedge massage techniques, anti-ageing beauty treatments and hydrotherapy. Integral to Ellerman House’s emphasis on sharing the best of what South Africa has to offer is its approach to gourmet food and fine wine. From the kitchen comes exceptional cuisine that reflects the best of local and seasonal flavours with superior provenance. Artfully plated generous plates, from a daily evolving menu of modern classics, are complemented by a vast collection of vintage South African wines. A resident sommelier offers private tastings, wine pairing recommendations, and tips on discovering the best of the Capes wine estates. The Ellerman House Wine Gallery, a spectacular cellar for a 7500-bottle wine collection, offers an interactive, experiential journey into the world of wine.
BAR ROC is the newly renovated bar at Ellerman House. Suitable for the classic raconteur to wax lyrical about his or her African escapades while enjoying a craft drink designed by the bar tenders.
