Take aim at learning one of the world's oldest sports. With the help of a field guide, learn the methods and tips for shooting a bow and arrow in a safe and controlled environment. Archery is suitable for adults and children over six, and is subject to weather conditions. Sun protection and proper footwear is recommended.

Signature Wildlife and Sundowners Tour
The tour begins as the sun begins its slow descent towards the horizon, eventually casting a golden hue across the ancient sandstone of the escarpments. Not only is this an incredibly beautiful time of the day, it is also when many of our native animals are starting to become active and easily visible. Guests can observe kangaroos, wallaroos, wallabies and many native birds, possibly even our resident Wedge Tailed Eagles. The tour provides countless photographic opportunities of both the wildlife and the spectacular scenery, and as the Field Guides are well versed in local bush lore and history, guests will be entertained and educated along the way.

Birdwatching Tour
The Birdwatching Tour provides an introduction to the diverse birdlife of Wolgan Valley and the Blue Mountains. This is an area where over 150 bird species have been observed, providing habitat for a diversity of woodland, grassland and freshwater species. Species include various birds of prey, such as the magnificent Wedge Tailed Eagle, Black Shouldered Kites, Brown Falcons and Nankeen Kestrels, to the tiny Finches and colourful parrots of our grassy and woodland areas.

HERITAGE TOURS

Colonial Heritage Tour
Departing from the 1832 Heritage Homestead and Kitchen Garden, Field Guides will walk guests through this fascinating historic precinct, explaining the process of meticulous restoration necessary to bring the original homestead back to its former glory. Guests will enjoy stories of a past life carved out of the wilderness and capture a glimpse into the trying conditions that early Australian settlers faced. Guides will also reveal some insights into the innovative building practices developed by pioneer settlers to adapt to such a rugged environment.mThe tour will also visit the see the fully-functioning heritage kitchen garden, which has been re-established to supply fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts and herbs to the resort's kitchens.

Private Guided Tour of Newnes Industrial Ruins
Step back in time with a guided walking tour of the historic Newnes Industrial Ruins. This fascinating tour explores a period when heavy industry reigned supreme and many speculators sought their fortune in "black gold" and shale oil. Operating from 1906 to 1932, the Newnes Shale Oil Refinery was an ambitious undertaking for its time, due to the isolated location of Wolgan Valley and its considerable distance from essential coastal ports. The refinery was one of the largest shale oil production schemes in Australia and comprised of mining, processing, distillation and associated manufacturing industries such as coking coal, bricks, and paraffin wax. During the period of peak production it is estimated up to 2000 people resided in the remote mining village of Newnes. The tour will explore the historic ruins of the former Newnes shale oil refinery, the refinery coal mine, the iconic beehive-shaped coking coal kilns, Newnes railway station, and the remnants of ghost township of Newnes. Your guide will reveal the stories and features of this historically significant landscape located on the edge of the Wollemi Wilderness Area and one of New South Wales most wild and scenic river systems.

Trail Rides And Horse Riding
Venture out into the Wolgan Valley and Greater Blue Mountains and explore the beautiful hills, creeks, and ridgelines the way they were meant to be seen - on horseback.

Stables Tour
Enjoy a guided tour though the stables and meet some of Wolgan Valley’s friendly horses. The horses come in various shapes and sizes; from the gentle giant ‘Marshmallow’ to the small horse with a big personality, ‘Nero’. Guides will assist you to feed the horses some of their favourite treats and will provide an insight into the operations of the horse riding program. All guests are welcome to participate in this activity and it is particularly suitable for families and children.

Donkey Mountain Guided Hike

This challenging hike provides an opportunity to explore one of the Wolgan Valley's most iconic geological features. In the company of an experienced Field Guide, you will hike into the Gardens of Stone National Park, making your way through beautiful Australian bushland, travelling steeply towards the sandstone cliffs and remarkable pagoda formations of the summit.

Stargazing Talk
You will be guided on a short tour through Australia's magnificent night skies by one of the resort's Field Guides. Wolgan Valley is blessedly free of the light pollution that restricts our view of the night sky in cities and the night sky is nothing short of spectacular. This activity is conducted within easy walking distance of the Main Homestead and is a perfect way to close your evening with a glass of wine in hand.

The Valley Bar and Terrace Lounge offers an expansive veranda to enjoy during the warmer months, or an open fireplace indoors when the weather turns cooler. At any time of the day or year, panoramic views across the valley frame the vibrant hues of the seasons, encouraging guests to sit back, rest and contemplate the spectacular surroundings. 

Showcasing over 150 different wines with an eclectic selection of Australian and international labels. An emphasis is placed on wines from the surrounding Orange, Mudgee and Hunter Valley regions, in addition to well established vineyards across Australia such as the Barossa Valley, Margaret River and Yarra Valley, as well as labels from New Zealand, France, Chile, the United States and Europe.

Located in the Main Homestead, the venue also features a walk in Wine Cellar. With its expansive plate-glass windows and open doors, the wine selection here is a very visual experience.

An elegantly refined venue with lofty, timber-beamed ceilings and sandstone walls. The menu changes according to season and various ingredients are incorporated from the resort’s very own kitchen garden.

Located in the Main Homestead, begin the day with a leisurely breakfast of freshly baked pastries, organic muesli, fruit compôtes, local jams and honey and freshly baked breads followed by a choice hearty cooked dishes prepared by the resort's chef, or a presentation of local meats and cheeses.

In the evening, watch as a setting sun drenches the surrounding landscape in soft colours, offering a romantic backdrop for a delectable six-course menu or à la carte dinner.

Located in the Main Homestead, the casual-yet-refined Country Kitchen is an ideal choice for lunch or an afternoon snack offering a fresh selection of tantalising artisanal breads. Look to the Seasonal Blackboard for daily culinary inspirations, or savour an incredible selection of authentic dishes such as Salted White Bait Fritters served with Crispy Salad, or Butternut Pumpkin with Black Cod Tortellini.

During the summer months, the surrounding landscape is the perfect setting for a gourmet picnic filled with fresh farmhouse-style breads, antipasto, mouth-watering cheese platters or fresh made salads and sandwiches.
