Summary

Four Seasons Hotel Firenze is an outstading art-filled Renaissance palace near Giardino della Gherardesca, one the oldest, largest and most elegant Florentine gardens in the heart of Florence. The building began its storied life in the 15th century as the Palazzo della Gherardesca before becoming, in turn, a papal residence, a convent and, in 2008, a luxury hotel, managed by the Four Seasons. That most recent transformation took seven years and 42 craftsmen who worked day and night to restore the interior to its former glory. The hotel is proud with its 15th-century stone-carved allegorical reliefs and 16th-century Mannerist frescos—works by artisans, such as Giovanni Stradano, who were in the exclusive service of royalty and the elite.

The hotel's 72 guest rooms and 44 suites can be found within two buildings: an ornate Conventino and Renaissance Palazzo della Gherardesca. Reflecting their rich architectural history, many suites feature original frescoes, friezes and hand-painted sculptured reliefs, blending Renaissance artistry with high-tech comfort.

Guests are invited to savour authentic Italian flavours at one of the hotel's restaurants, including Il Palagio, which was awarded with one Michelin star, La Magnolia, which serves delightful breakfast or the outdoor restaurant Al Fresco, which serves typical Italian trattoria dishes during lunch and barbecues for dinner. There is also the Atrium Bar that offers lights meals, coffee specialities and refreshing cocktails.

Since Florence has so many activities, guests, who visit most of the sights that the city has to offer, usually want some time just for relaxing. Four Seasons Hotel Firenze has a luxurious spa offering a wide selection of treatments, massages and facials. There is also an outdoor pool, whirlpool and steam room for the enhancement of the spa experience. Those who want to get a little bit more active, are invited to use the hotel's fitness center that provides the latest cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, personal trainers, yoga or other fitness classes.

Guests staying at the hotel have many opportunities for memorable experiences on the hotel's grounds or outside the hotel: an unforgettable dining experience on the terrace of Ponte Vecchio, hot air ballon ride over the hotel's area and the nearby countryside, cooking classes for the little ones and many more.

The hotel is just steps away from the city's most notable attractions, including the Duomo, Uffizzi Palace. It is just 15 km away from Florence International Airport.

The city's Parco della Gherardesca is Florence's second-largest park, offering beautiful botanical species. Nearby, the Botanical Garden is the world's oldest of its kind, showcasing exotic plants and unique species.

Considering that members of the Medici family were such great patrons of the arts, it's hardly surprising that Florence hosts one of Europe's great music festivals, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, which runs annually from April 1 to June 30. Featuring concerts, opera and ballet, it attracts world-class soloists and orchestras. Zubin Mehta is the music director of its resident orchestra. Concerts take place mainly in the Teatro Comunale, the town's principal theatre, but they are also held in some of the smaller auditoriums, such as the Teatro Goldoni. During June, July and September, musical events take place at the Boboli Garden in Florence and in Fiesole's amphitheatre.
