Hapuku Lodge and Tree Houses is a contemporary eco-friendly country house hotel located only 12 km away from the famous eco-marine town of Kaikoura on New Zealand's South Island.
This unique retreat is comprised of 5 luxurious tree houses set 10 m up in the canopy of native Kanuka, 4 sumptous lodge suites and the Olive House suite. Each of the houses, packed in native wood and copper shingles, merges naturally and harmoniously with the surrounding environment.
All the food at Hapuku Lodge is made in the lodge kitchen using the finest produce sourced from the Lodge's own herb and vegetable gardens, free-range chickens and olive groves, as well as local market gardens. When it comes to activities, Hapuku Lodge and Tree Houses is an exceptional base camp for enjoying some of the best things the area has to offer. The retreat is located only about 10 minutes drive from Kaikoura, highly populated by fishermen, farmers and artisans, who have turned the town into an eco-tourism place.
The small Kaikoura airport is only 15 min. drive away while the larger international Christchurch Airport, which is to the south of Hapuku Lodge, is more than two hours drive. Blenheim Airport, to the north, is less than two hours drive.
Tony Wilson, the owner of Hapuku lodge, started Hapuku Farm in the beginning of 90s, when visited his nephew Paul, who had acquired a modest deer farm overlooking his favourite surf spot at Mangamanu Bay. Not long after that, the two relatives agreed to become partners in Hapuku Deer Farm.
The farm was small in the beginning, but later the partners acquired more land to sustain the growing deer herd and purchased the 120 acres of the lower farm, where the Lodge and Tree Houses are today.

Produce is sourced from the Lodge's own herb and vegetable gardens, free range chickens, as well as local market gardens, fisherman and hunters. The Hapuku Room offers breathtaking views, overlooks the Lodge’s lap-pool, deer paddock, Kaikoura’s inspiring mountains and the Southern Pacific Ocean. The room is light and large and features a fireplace, soaking tub, rain fountain shower, custom-made furniture, balcony and private stairway down to the pool.

The lodge offers two spacious suites that are 80sq metres. These Lodge Suites can accommodate up to three persons.
