The history of the Amalfi Coast dates back to the first century A.D. when the Roman aristocracy built luxurious villas in the area. Soon Amalfi, and its surrounding towns, became refined and well developed communities. Amalfi prospered mainly because of the wealthy commerce opportunities with many other populations around the Mediterranean Sea. Amalfi owned a powerful fleet of ships and had strong marine traditions and laws. Today, Amalfi still maintains its fishing traditions and still has a number of fully functional, traditional fishing boats. Amalfitans are also very proud of one of their most famous mariners, Flavio Gioia, the inventor of the compass.

Hotel Raito has 77 bedrooms and suites, all furnished with taste and elegance. The refined Il Golfo restaurant offers the best of creative Mediterranean à la carte cuisine in an absolutely spectacular location, with an exclusive view of the Gulf of Salerno and the Faraglioni (seastacks) of Vietri sul Mare. There are also classic terraces on the sea among olive groves and fragrant citrus groves, typical of the Amalfi Coast, where receptions and meetings can be held, with a magnificent view of the sea. Guests can also enjoy an exclusive ExPure SPA wellness centre measuring 300 sqm with a further 300 sqm of outdoor solarium.
