The finest cigars meet the exclusive ambience of a British gentlemen’s club at the Kempinski Cigar Lounge by Zechbauer München. The perfect atmosphere to enjoy your cigar or cigarillo.

A highlight of the Cigar Lounge are the 18 elegant, private humidors, where guests may store their valued cigars to preserve a perfect aroma, even when storing them for a longer time.

To honour not only the traditions of the hotel but also the key theme of tobacco, interior architect Colin Finnegan has incorporated these key elements into the design. Thus, genuine Tabaco Leaf wall panelling and tables are featured in the Cigar Lounge. FAMOUS BUILDINGS & PLACES

Cathedral dedicated to Our Lady
One of the key landmarks in Munich, the Frauenkirche Cathedral is one not to be missed. The towers of the cathedral stand tall over the city, and can be seen from a great distance around. There are many interesting sights to be seen within the cathedral, including the devil's footprint, the relics of St. Benno, the historic clock and the crypt.

Over the years the cathedral has undergone a number of modifications. The two onion-domed towers that are now such a landmark, and that differ in height by just 12 centimetres, were added at a later date after the cathedral’s construction. Today, the church has seating for a congregation of 20,000 and hosts many concerts and organ recitals due to its beautiful acoustics and striking interior. At the entrance to the cathedral is the famous Devil’s Footprint (Teufelstritt), a curious imprint in the floor which is steeped in myth as to its origin.

The very best vista of both the city of Munich and even the Alps can be enjoyed from the top of the south tower which is open from April to October from Monday to Sunday 10am – 5pm.

Cathedral opening times: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Fridays it closes at 6 p.m. On Thursdays it is open until 8.30 p.m.

Marienplatz
As the name suggests, the Marienplatz Central Square is the most central area of Munich. Today, the historic city centre is a transport hub, the epicentre of the pedestrianized area and the centre of culture in the city. Here you will find Munich's second landmark, the neo-Gothic Town Hall, with its elaborately decorated façade where you can experience the world-famous Glockenspiel (chimes) in the tower, which play every day. Also located on Marienplatz are the Fischbrunnen (fish fountain) and Mariensäule, a tall column topped with a golden statue of the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of Bavaria.

Munich’s Town Hall is a particularly impressive building and a well-known and recognised landmark of the city. The Town Hall actually comprises of two buildings. The Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) at the eastern end of the square was first mentioned in records dating back to 1310. Today it is home to the toy museum (Spielzeugmuseum).

The large neo-Gothic New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) on the northern side of the square was built between 1867 and 1909, it is also noted for its very remarkable carillon. The clock is set in motion each day at 11 a.m., 12 a.m. and, from March to October, at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. The west end of the square marks the start of the pedestrianized zone that is perfect to stroll along and enjoy a little shopping. To the south of Marienplatz is the Viktualienmarkt.

Viktualienmarkt
Originating as a farmers’ market, today the Viktualienmarkt is a hub of gourmet delights favoured by epicures from all over the world. Set in the heart of Munich’s historic city centre the Viktualienmarkt is a magnet to tourists and locals alike.Gourmets from near and far will all find something here to tempt their palate with a wide range of local and exotic wines, meats, fish, cheeses, bread, fruit, vegetables and spices on display and plenty of opportunities to sample the offerings along the way.

In true Munich tradition there is of course a beer garden at the centre of the market serving beers brewed by the city’s six breweries in rotation.

The market is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (closing times can vary).

Hofbraeuhaus
Built in 1589, the Hofbraeuhaus (Beer Hall) was originally established to provide beer to the court of the Wittelsbachs. Today, the Hofbräuhaus is one of Munich’s most famous landmarks.

The Hofbräuhaus has been a brewery and tavern ever since its construction and must be the most well-known of all of Munich’s historic attractions. Catering for up to 35,000 people a day in its beer hall, tap rooms and beer garden, the Hofbräuhaus on Platzl is most definitely worth a visit. The Bavarian specialities and of course the famous Hofbräu beer served here will give you a great insight into Bavarian cuisine. These are served to the accompaniment of Bavarian music from 9 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. every day.

OKTOBERFEST IN MUNICH
Famous around the world, Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest, a large public event in Germany that combines an exciting funfair with a beer festival. Millions of people from all over the world come to the city of Munich every single year to enjoy two weeks of celebrations, indulge in delicious Bavarian food and try the exclusive beer.
When does Oktoberfest take place?
Oktoberfest has been held annually in Munich for more than 200 years. The festival traditionally begins in September and continues for 16 to 18 days into early October. Usually, Oktoberfest will end on the first Sunday in October, however if this date falls before German Unity Day (October 3rd), it will continue until then. Originally, Oktoberfest did begin in October but it has since been moved forward so guests can enjoy better weather conditions and warmer nights.

BAYERISCHE STAATSOPER
The Bavarian State Opera is one of the world’s five leading opera houses and can proudly claim a history of over 350 years. With over 300 performances and approximately 600,000 visitors a year, the Bavarian State Opera is an important contributor to Munich’s reputation as one of the world’s top metropolises in terms of art and culture. The company stages over 30 different operas from five centuries, as well as ballet productions, concert performances and “Liederabend” recitals during a season. The Bavarian State Opera features one of the most diverse and impressive programs in the world, highlighted each year by the Munich Opera Festival. With an auditorium that holds 2,101 people, the Bavarian State Opera is Germany’s largest opera house, and is also considered to be one of the most beautiful opera houses in Europe. ALLIANZ ARENA
The Allianz Arena is home to the world-famous football club FC Bayern Munich. With up to 75,000 seats, this gigantic arena is Germany’s third biggest football stadium.
But it is not only football that makes this venue so attractive, a spacious gastronomic area, as well as conference facilities, are housed here. For fans of FC Bayern Munich, it is a must to visit the Fan Shop as well as the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt, Germany’s biggest club museum.

MUSEUMS

Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung
Artistic quality and thematic variety have always been the guiding force in establishing exhibition programs at Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, which has included art dating from 5000 BC up to the present day.
Covering themes that range from prehistoric worlds to non-European civilisations, this programme has featured exhibitions as diverse as 'Sudan', 'Korea; The Ancient Kingdoms', and 'The Gold of the Scythians'. An interdisciplinary exhibition was first organised in 2005, dealing with the subject of water in stunning realism.
The heart of the exhibition program, however, is based on western art including works by Old Masters ('Madame de Pompadour' or 'Frans Hals and Haarlem Painting') and classical modern art, featuring artists like Chagall, Gauguin, Giacometti, Kirchner, Magritte, Munch, or Picasso.
More than 80 exhibitions have been presented since the opening of the venue in 1985. In 2001, the Kunsthalle moved into new premises within the city block complex called Fünf Höfe (the five courtyards), which has been designed by the renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. Deutsches Museum
The Deutsches Museum is the ideal place to spend a few hours or even a whole day while learning about everything from transport to music and communication. The museum covers all spheres of life, offering its visitors the opportunity to learn about science by experiencing it up close, every day from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. It's a great place to visit if you are spending time in Munich with the family, as children will love exploring the many exhibits, particularly in the Kid's Kingdom area.

Bavaria Film Studio

PARKS IN MUNICH

Englischer Garten
For over 225 years the Englische Garten has been providing the people of Munich with an oasis of tranquillity. For a relaxing afternoon in Munich, head to the Englische Garten (English Garden), one of the world's largest urban public parks. Whether you prefer cycling, jogging, roller-blading or walking, the park has over 78 kilometres of paths that make the Englische Garten ideal for sporting activities of all kinds. Covering a total of 3.7 km2 the Englische Garten is larger even than Central Park in New York.
There are plenty of beer gardens within the park offering delicious snacks and refreshments - the ideal way to spend a pleasurable hour or two. Some of the most popular spots are the beer gardens under the Chinesische Turm and by the Seehaus. For something a little different, plan a visit to the charming Japanische Teehaus where guests can experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
The very best views of Munich can be enjoyed from the Monopteros which is not only a popular meeting place but also a symbol of Munich’s cosmopolitan flair. Finally, don’t miss the chance to watch the surfers on the Eisbach. Attracting spectators from all over the world, the surfers are there all year round riding the man-made wave.
Even in winter the Englische Garten has plenty to offer, try sledging on the snowy hills or donning your skates and enjoying a little ice skating on Kleinhesseloher Lake.

Olympic Park
After having been built for the 1972 Olympic Games, the park now boasts an indoor pool, ice skating center and the Olympiahalle concert hall for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, the park is also home to the soaring, mighty Olympic Tower - one of Munich’s most impressive landmarks, offering majestic panoramic views of Munich and its surroundings. The park also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including music concerts and exhibitions, so there's sure to be something to catch your eye. The park is just a short drive away from the hotel, and you can even arrange a guided tour.

Westpark
Westpark, located in Sendling, is one of the not so widely known but still highly recommendable parks that provides a lot of attractions.
It was built in 1983 for the International Garden Exhibition and has been a local refuge for Munich’s citizens living in the south-western part of the Bavarian capital ever since.
The hilly landscape with various lakes and ponds as well as tree-lined promenades are ideal for a calm stroll or a brisk walk. There are also a variety of gardens including an enchanting rose garden, a nice collection of alpine plants and trees, and finally a typical Japanese garden.
When wanting to rest your feet and take a break from walking, pop into one of the two beer gardens, Hopfgarten or Rosengarten, or stop at the coffee shop, which can be found on the shore of one of Westpark’s lakes.
One summer highlight between May and September is the open-air cinema “Kino, Mond & Sterne” (Cinema, Moon & Stars). Every year, movies are shown on a stage by the lake located in the western part of the park.
The easiest way to reach Westpark is by public transport. Take the underground U6 either from the Odeonsplatz or Marienplatz and get off at Westpark.

Hofgarten
Only a short stroll away from the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski is the picturesque Hofgarten. Surrounded by Munich’s Residence, the Bavarian State Chancellery, and the Odeonsplatz, the baroque square designed in an Italian style is one of the most beautiful gardens within the city’s boundaries. Munich’s citizens love to spend their lunch breaks here and, in the evenings, it is a popular spot for tourists to relax after a long day of sightseeing – an idyllic oasis in the heart of Munich.
Right in the middle of the garden lies Diana’s Temple. When the weather is pleasant, you often hear musicians using the temple to play the piano, violin, clarinet or cello, entertaining the garden’s visitors.
At the northern end of the garden, boule players enjoy their favourite game.
