If it is back-to-nature that you want, Pacuare Lodge will bring it to you in eco-friendly spades. This green-minded retreat's suites and one villa are dotted between the meandering Pacuare River and a peaceful wilderness reserve, full of flamboyant birds and butterflies, singing toucans and tropical oropendolas.
All the unique accommodations come up with tasteful decor, luxe bathrooms and open-air spaces. As sustainability here is fundamental, the lodge’s bathrooms are equipped with biodegradable soap and shampoo, and the water for their showers is solar heated. Guests are invited to rest without the distractions of technology, however, Wi-Fi can be found in the lobby and common areas.
Guests craving for fresh meals will be seduced by the culinary experience at Pacuare Lodge. Here, all the attention goes to locally grown ingredients sourced from the lodge's farm Las Nubes de Tuis. Dishes from juicy fruits, sun-kissed vegetables and fragrant herbs can be served during the romantic dinner by the riverbank or in the lodge's very own nest - a platform, which is 20 metres high in a treetop. Chicken curry, steak with jumbo shrimps and goat cheese are on the menu as well.
Worries and tension check out when you check into Jawa Juü Spa. This one-of-a-kind word stands for the house of shamans, who heal their patients with medicinal plants they find in the jungle. There are no doubts that all the body treatments, back massages, body wraps and facials are performed using only local ingredients like guava, organic chocolate, volcanic mud and honey.
It would be a sin not to be lazy and not to enjoy lounging in your hammock and listening to the birds singing. However, it is worth not forgetting that there is an abundance of activities like white water rafting, Cabecar indigenous hike and tropical canyoning.
Pacuare Lodge is located in Limón Province, almost in the center of Costa Rica. It makes the retreat easily accessible from other Costa Rica's attractions.
Getting from San José International Airport will take roughly three hours. Firstly, you can take a two-hour bus trip from San José to the jungle. Once you reach the jungle, you can choose from two options: a 30-min. off-road jeep ride or a 90-min. white-water river rafting excursion.
