Cultural Destinations
 
Central Post Office
The largest post office in Vietnam was built by the famous architect Gustave Eiffel. This is a working post office where visitors can buy stamps, books, souvenirs, and collector coin sets. Be sure to check out the hand-painted maps on either side of the post office’s interior walls.

Opera House
Built at the beginning of 1897 under an original architectural design by French architect Ferret Eugene, the Opera House was restored and renewed in 2005 to celebrate the 407th anniversary of the foundation of Saigon. Visitors can enjoy music, dancing, and traditional and modern dramas.

War Remnants Museum
Established in 1975, this museum focuses on the war with the United States and is filled with amazing exhibits from that era. A highlight is the “Requiem Photographic Exhibition” of pictures taken by photojournalists who lost their lives during the war. Outside, visitors will find an interesting collection of tanks and captured U.S. fighter planes.

Notre Dame Cathedral
This must-see cathedral was built between October 1877 and April 1880. With the approval of the Vatican, it was named Notre Dame at ceremonies held on December 7 and 8, 1959. Its Neo-Romanesque architecture and two 40-square-meter (431-square-foot) bell towers crown the Paris Commune Square where it is located.
