Summary

This is a 13-day trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. During this inspiring journey you will experience the charm of Hanoi, the colours of Hoi An and the magic of Halong Bay. You will also explore Cambodia's famous temples of Angkor and learn more about Khmer culture. Furthermore, you will meet a local monk and local people and see their daily lifestyle. Finally, you will spend 3 unforgettable nights at the secluded Song Saa Private Island Resort.

Itinerary

Day 1
Excursion starts:

Flight to Hanoi. Upon arrival you will be met by the local guide at Hanoi airport, then transferred by private vehicle to the hotel. Spend your day at leisure in Hanoi. Later you will enjoy dinner at "La Verticale" restaurant of Didier Corlou.

Day 2
Excursion starts:

After breakfast, you will begin the day by exploring the capital, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, where the remains of the national hero, the father of the nation rest, and his former residence. Then you will visit the one-Pillar Pagoda, a historic Buddhist temple, built of wood on a single stone pillar, and Tran Quoc Pagoda, regarded as the most ancient pagoda of the city built in the 6th century and a cultural symbol of Vietnamese.

Then you will visit Ngoc Son Temple, which is beautifully situated on Hoan Kiem Lake, and which is reached by a charming wooden bridge.

Later you will enjoy lunch at "Ly Club" restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university. Then, you will be transferred to the Museum of Ethnology, which focuses on the 54 officially recognized ethnic groups in Vietnam. You will the continue the sightseeing by visiting the Museum of Vietnamese Women, which has an impressive collection of propaganda posters as well as beautiful traditional ethnic ornaments.

In the late afternoon, you will enjoy a private water puppet show by local artists and discover the beauty of this unique Vietnamese traditional art.

Day 3
Excursion starts:

After breakfast, you will travel by seaplane to the majestic Halong Bay, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You will arrive in Halong by midday and will be welcomed and boarded on the private junk for a memorable cruise through one of the natural marvels of Vientam.

For lunch, a delicious Vietnamese meal will be served while the junk starts its course toward Bai Tu Long. The afternoon will be dedicated to one of the two following activities:
- visit a fishing village, hidden among the rocky peaks, on board of a bamboo boat;
- time at leisure on a beach for swimming or kayaking.

Late in the afternoon you will return back on the junk for a cooking class while the boat navigates towards the anchor spot for the night.

At nightfall, fishing for squid is open, the opportunity to discover Vietnamese fishing techniques!

Day 4
Excursion starts:

After breakfast, you will depart on board a smaller boat to discover a site by kayak. This remote part of the Bay shelters semi-flooded tunnels and impressive limestone cliffs.

Lunch will be served on board while the rest of the afternoon is spent cruising around to enjoy the amazing scenery.

Some various activities will be proposed by the boat’s guide according to the time and weather conditions.

Later you will be transferred back to the junk and enjoy some relaxing moments for the rest of the day until dinner time.

Enjoy a candlelight dinner in a cave in HalongBay.

Day 5
Excursion starts:

After the breakfast, junk resumes its course. During the morning, it crosses the bay and stops to visit a natural cave. Brunch will be served on board before returning on the coast around 11 am.

You will then depart by seaplane to Hanoi. You will be transferred to Hanoi airport for your flight to Hoi An. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the local guide at Hoi An airport and transferred by private vehicle to the hotel in Danang.

Day 6
Excursion starts:

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxing moment and private initiation to yoga facing the sea. Under the supervision of an expert, you will stretch and reinvigorate your body throughout this yoga session, and will thus begin the day in a really peaceful way.

In the afternoon, you will be picked up from the hotel to visit the famous Old Quarter of Hoi An. This is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. You will walk around Hoi An ancient town and explore its treasures. The buildings and street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site. 

Then, you will visit a lantern making cottage and learn how to make one.

The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the old city or the beach.

Day 7
Excursion starts:

After breakfast, you will enjoy time at leisure at the hotel. Then you will be transferred from Danang airport for your flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by a local guide at Siem Reap airport and transferred to your hotel.

In the afternoon, you will visit Angkor Wat (early-mid 12th century), dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu. This magnificent temple-mountain, built by King Suryavarman II, is considered as the masterpiece of the Khmer architecture and art.

Late in the afternoon, you will enjoy a helicopter flight over the Angkor Archaeological site. This is a unique opportunity to fly in a helicopter for a duration of nearly 20 minutes over one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in the world!

Day 8
Excursion starts:

After breakfast, you will visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom by Jeep, a huge architectural complex with the famous Bayon Temple at its center. This mountain-temple was once surrounded by 54 towers. On each of the 37 remaining, 4 enigmatic faces can still be recognized. Then, explore Baphuon, which was fully restored by a team of French archaeologists after 16 years of work.

In the afternoon, you will visit the twin temples of Chau Say Thommanon and Tevoda, the unfinished temple-mountain of Ta Keo, the holy water basin of Srah Srang, and the Banteay Kdei monastery.

Finally, you will discover the fascinating Ta Phrom Temple, probably one of the most famous monuments with Angkor Wat and the Bayon. This former monastery is still surrounded by the jungle. Early evening, you will enjoy a surprising circus show combining creativity, energy and originality, all acquired from the Khmer culture (VIP seat).

Day 9
Excursion starts:

After breakfast, you will meet with an authentic Buddhist monk in the serene setting of a Khmer pagoda to learn more about the life of Buddha. The meeting ends with a blessing of the monk.

In the afternoon, you will drive through to the famous Banteay Srey Temple "Citadel of Women". This small pink sandstone temple (late 10th century) is considered to be a jewel in the crown of classical Khmer art because of its delicate carvings.

Then, you will return back to Siem Reap through the Cambodian countryside and stop at a centre of the golden silk production to learn about this ancient craft, followed by the visit of the marvellously restored Bantey Samre Temple.

Day 10
Excursion starts:

After breakfast, you will experience an amazing journey into the world of the Khmer gurus, living in small villages scattered in the park. It is the perfect opportunity to meet with the local people and to observe, along with a specialist (upon availability), their daily lifestyle.

Later you will be transferred to Siem Reap airport for your flight to Sihanoukville. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by a local guide and transferred by a speedboat (40 min.) to the secluded Song Saa Island.

Day at leisure on Song Saa Island. Accommodation with full board.
