The scenic landscape and historical significance of Phnom Kulen makes this the perfect destination for photography enthusiasts. Phnom Kulen is home to the holy plateau and birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. Here the first kingdom was founded, and the stones for Angkor were quarried. The waters from the river spring are consecrated, flowing over the Thousands Lingas carved into the riverbed to bless the rice fields below with fertility, and eventually becoming the irrigation system that made the city of Angkor possible. The huge waterfalls and the sanctuary with its large reclining Buddha create unique motifs. On the way to Phnom Kulen, pass villages and rice fields which provide picturesque backdrops to rural living. Return to Siem Reap in the late afternoon.
