Laura, our Product Manager and Luxury Travel Advisor at Hurlingham Travel, has just returned from an unforgettable fam trip to the Maldives, beautifully curated by Flospitality, a premier luxury hotel representation company. During her stay, Laura had the pleasure of experiencing not just one, but two remarkable Six Senses resorts - Six Senses Kanuhura and Six Senses Laamu - each offering its own unique version of barefoot luxury in the Indian Ocean. Laura's thoughts and experiences about the Maldives are below.

SIX SENSES KANUHURA: A REFINED NEW BEGINNING

Located in the pristine Lhaviyani Atoll, Six Senses Kanuhura is a reimagined classic. While the island has long been loved as a tropical retreat, it’s only recently joined the Six Senses portfolio - and with that, a new era has begun. The resort has undergone a thoughtful transformation, now offering the signature Six Senses charm: authentic luxury, sustainability, and a deep connection to nature.

What Laura loved most about Kanuhura

The island itself was a standout. Laura loved the variety of its beaches - some narrow and winding, perfect for a morning stroll, and others wider and open, ideal for lounging. The lush greenery made the island feel alive, and its "just right" size - not too big, not too small - gave it a perfectly intimate feel without ever feeling confined.

The layout of the resort was also a highlight. Everything is centrally located on land, making it easy and natural to move between the main areas. Laura appreciated not having to navigate long walkways or boats to reach restaurants or the spa - everything flowed seamlessly.

And of course, the service was exceptional: warm, genuine, and always attentive without being intrusive.

PRO TIP:
For a truly picturesque and peaceful experience, Laura recommends choosing a beach villa over an overwater option. The beach villas are particularly charming, nestled in greenery with direct access to the sand and sea - perfect for those who appreciate privacy and tropical elegance.

GETTING THERE:
Six Senses Kanuhura is just a 45-minute scenic seaplane flight from Malé International Airport, making it easily accessible while still feeling like a secluded escape.

SIX SENSES LAAMU: A SIGNATURE SANCTUARY

Set in the remote Laamu Atoll, Six Senses Laamu is the epitome of the brand’s ethos - natural, sustainable, and deeply connected to its environment. It’s the kind of resort that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a dream: castaway-chic, soulful, and wonderfully unpolished in the most intentional way.

What Laura loved most about Laamu

The lush nature on the island is incredibly immersive - you’re surrounded by vibrant green jungle and the sounds of birds and ocean breeze at every turn. For those passionate about marine life, Laamu is a true gem. The house reef here is stunning and teeming with life: sea turtles, baby reef sharks, and a kaleidoscope of colourful fish made snorkeling and diving an absolute joy.

The rustic design is what makes this resort so authentic - it feels distinctly Maldivian, with wooden walkways, open-air spaces, and natural textures that blend perfectly with the environment.

Families will love this place too - there’s a brilliant kids club packed with creative, eco-focused activities that keep young explorers engaged and entertained. The staff were simply amazing, kind-hearted and full of stories that make your stay even more special.

Surfers, take note: Laamu is a hotspot for surf lovers, especially during the season when Yin Yang, one of the Maldives' most famous breaks, delivers consistent barrels just offshore.

PRO TIP:
Don’t miss the complimentary house reef tour with the resort’s marine biologist. It’s an insightful and fascinating way to learn about the reef and its delicate ecosystem.

GETTING THERE:
Laamu is reached via the resort’s own branded seaplane, the Six Senses Sea Turtle - a scenic 70-minute flight that offers an unforgettable bird’s-eye view of the atolls below.

Sustainability: A Way of Life

As expected from Six Senses, sustainability is not an add-on but a way of life at both resorts. Their commitment to protecting the environment is impressive - from marine conservation efforts to in-house water desalination and bottling, and from organic gardens to guest workshops where you can learn how to make soap, paper, and even recycle glass into art. Every detail is designed to tread lightly on the earth while enriching the guest experience.

When to Go: Weather in the Maldives

The Maldives is typically best visited between November and April, when sunny skies and dry conditions dominate. That said, I visited in June—technically the rainy season—and the weather was surprisingly wonderful. Most rain came at night, and days were mostly clear with some beautiful cloud cover, gentle breezes, and a comfortable 28–29°C temperature. It was humid at times, but in such a lush setting, that only added to the tropical charm.

Final Thoughts: A Destination That Nourishes the Soul

The Maldives continues to be the ultimate escape—for couples, families, solo travellers, and anyone looking to unplug, reconnect with nature, and savor the luxury of time and space. Whether you’re diving with turtles, dining on freshly caught seafood, or simply watching the sunset from your hammock, this is where relaxation meets wonder.

If you’re dreaming of privacy, ocean adventures, natural beauty, and effortless luxury, the Maldives—and particularly these two exceptional Six Senses resorts—might just be your perfect paradise.
